Aamby Valley India Bridal Week-2010

Shimmer and shine was what it was at the Rocky S show that concluded Day 1 of the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2010 at Hotel Sahara Star on Friday night. Finely crafted lehengas, splendid saris, striking contemporary kurtas and feminine gowns along with sharply cut sherwanis, suits and Jodhpuri jackets were on view.

It was a story of silk, chiffon, satin, net and georgette with generous touches of velvet and a colour palette that ranged from old rose to military green, enticing nude, sinful chocolate, marvelous maroon, stark black, immaculate ivory, grey and beige. In this collection called 'The Tribal Shock' you saw a profusion of digital prints blended skillfully with floral and leopard motifs with embellishments selected keeping in mind the bridal season.

The show opened with a gold zardozi midi with a brown velvet bodice and soon unfolding before your eyes on the catwalk were gowns with shining silver midriffs, maroon shaded sari and crystal choli with bell sleeves, leggings worn with extended shoulder dresses in shimmering silver, nude embroidered lehengas, shaded peach tunic with low back and sexy halter red drop waist tunic, all making for amazing evening and bridal wear.

The western wear section was restricted to velvet one-button jackets and one satin tuxedo jacket. And Bollywood babe Dia Mirza was the shining showstopper, gracefully gliding down the ramp in an ethereal white net lehenga worn with a corset and dupatta dazzling with silver crystals and zari work.

The tropical paradise of the circular atrium of Hotel Sahara Star with the sight of fabulous foliage and the soothing sound of water bodies took on a different dimension as multiple ramps crisscrossed through various levels for the opening show of the first-ever Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2010 on Friday night. Present amongst others were Vijay Singh CMD VCI Hospitality and Secretary General FDPC and Vivek Kumar, CEO Aamby Valley City and Sahara Star. It was the Manish Arora show presented by Jona, the one-stop fashion destination for bridal and festive designer wear.

Laser lights pierced the air and unfolding before your eyes was a psychedelic treat in happy hues like yellow, pink and green and innovative surface ornamentation enhanced by crystallized elements. It was a nostalgic spin down memory lane, tracing the designer's work from 2008 to 2010. What you saw was his famed collections ranging from Pop Art, Circus, to Space Age, Jungle and Art Deco that enraptured the packed house that were seated at various levels and enjoyed an eyeful of extravagance. And the many models, sporting that lovable Mini Mouse hairstyle and funky makeup, had plenty of legwork to do but were all smiling. And what followed was the show by Rocky S, who showcased a lavish and delicately crafted collection of lehengas, graceful and exquisite saris, modish and enchanting churidar kurtas and wispy and mellifluous gowns. All the glimmer and shimmer was there and so was shining showstopper Dia Mirza. Yes, the bride wore white.
